What the Cables Do
Working alongside the springs, the cables help guide and support the door as it travels up and down, and keep it from crashing down if a spring fails.
Signs of Cable Wear
Look for visible fraying, rust, or a cable that looks loose or slack on one side of the door. A door that hangs crooked when closing is often a sign that one cable has slipped off its drum or started to fail.
Why a Snapped Cable Is Serious
If a cable snaps while the door is in motion, the door can fall suddenly and unevenly – a real risk to anything (or anyone) underneath, and to the door and track themselves.
Repair, Not Replacement of the Whole Door
