Genie is a different company from the Chamberlain family, and that matters more than most homeowners expect. Worth checking whether your Genie predates 1995
Genie introduced Intellicode rolling codes in 1995. Every press sends a different code, so it cannot be copied out of the air. Units built before that use a fixed code that never changes, which is far easier to capture. If the opener came with the house and the house dates to the early 90s or earlier, the security side is worth a conversation on its own, separately from whatever is failing mechanically.
